The Decision to go with DC Talk
Drs. Ben and Amy Breidenbach have three clinics around Lacrosse, WI. Dr. Amy primarily works out of their Onalaska office while Dr. Ben and Dr. Mitch Anderson work about ten miles away in Lacrosse. In April, Dr. Ben contacted JR Consulting to see what the DC Talk package could offer their practice and to schedule a demonstration in their office.

Shortly after that Matt Richard from JR Consulting had a meeting with the Breidenbach's where he demonstrated the intuitive interface of DC Talk as well as the amazing speed and accuracy of Dragon Medical working with DC Talk. After Dr. Ben trained his voice in just five minutes, DC Talk's accuracy was spot-on.

Drs. Ben and Amy then spent the next four months reviewing other software packages for their patient health records. The final factors that brought them to DC Talk over the other electronic record systems were:
  1. The versatility that speech recognition software gives the doctor over check box or scanning systems.
  2. The intuitive interface that DC Talk creates for end users.
  3. The excellent support provided by JR Consulting.
System Design
Because Drs. Breindenbach were adamant about having all three clinics using the same data, this is one of JR Consulting's most interesting and changeling installations. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) was set-up with the support of the Breidenbachs IT staff. Before any of the doctors saw the computers the staff at JRC worked with the Breidenbach's staff to set-up and configure all of the software, the interface with the Eclipse billing software, and get everything ready for Matt to come in and train Drs. Ben, Amy and Mitch.


The Installation
The installation went off without a hitch. JR Consulting came in on sunday morning. The Breidenbachs had purchased four big, beautiful touch screen computers, Geek Tables with motor controlled height and Phillips Speech Microphones. This makes for a great, ergonomic setup at all four workstations. All three doctors were trained quickly and brought through the basics of using DC Talk and Dragon Medical with excellent results.

Since so much preliminary work and forethought was put into the system design by JR Consulting, it allowed Matt to walk into the Onaklaska Clinic, power up the system and start training the Breidenbach doctors immediately. The rest of the time was spent driving from office to office, setting up printers and scanners and taking care of other minor details so the doctors would be ready for Monday morning and business as usual. The highlight of the training came when an x-ray was scanned into a patient record at one office and it was immediately available at all the other offices; the doctors were impressed.

All the doctors are currently dictating their patient recods. Using macros and dictation they are able to generate very thourough documentation in a fraction of the time it takes to check a lot of boxes and type in their encounter specific findings.
